![]() ![]() ![]() The rogue-like element of Darkest Dungeon eventually tops my interest in the game and it's why I've never managed to complete a run, but the time I do play it is quite enjoyable and narratively fulfilling. It's a similar kind of click to me that the game Crusader Kings 2 gives me - both of these games so effectively turn spreadsheets into stories. It creates a compelling narrative, an emotional connection in as game where the characters are just the output of an RNG generator. It's partly due to the setting: I love eldritch horror, but also partly due to the fact that there's the push and pull between attachment to characters and cutting characters out that become dead weight to you. I don't.really like roguelikes that much, but Darkest Dungeon works for me. The only issue with the controls on Switch is in the town with selecting characters, but honestly its not a huge issue. Looking over my favorites on Steam, I'd have to say Darkest Dungeon. ![]() I just don't like how slow Dark Souls is - so I think it's perfectly natural for me to like Sekiro given that it's everything I love about Dark Souls added to combat concision and ninja speed. The word “bastard” appears in the game.My instinct is to reply Sekiro given my general dislike of Dark Souls games in general but in deeper thought, I like the core concept of Dark Souls (dark fantasy world with cryptic narrative and the feeling of bosses being challenges that require you to try multiple times). In addition to consumable whiskey and wine items, one level depicts a drunken husband character some attack names also suggest drunkenness (e.g., Slurred Bombast Slumped Stupor). The game contains some mildly suggestive material: a “Book of Bawdy Tales,” with a picture of a couple on the cover dialogue such as “this is my kind of foreplay” during battle sequences. Some enemies are depicted with exposed viscera or severed tentacle-like appendages obtainable items include depictions of stylized fingers, hearts, and eyeballs. Battles are highlighted by gunfire, blood-splatter effects, and cries of pain. Players take turns using pistols, bladed weapons, clubs, and elemental skills to kill enemies (e.g., demons, ghouls, humans). Players explore various regions (e.g., a forest full of undead soldiers, a mountain filled with cultists) while battling enemies in turn-based combat. This is a strategy role-playing game in which players recruit heroes to battle evil forces in a decaying, fantasy world. ![]()
